A New Year's Story Film Wins an Official Selection to the LA Film Festival, based on Upcoming Manga Series by Kira G. (My Daughter!)
It's okay and even cool for girls to like sharks, dinosaurs, snakes, reptiles, and robots in Pillowland Punch, a new manga from Kira G., (pen name for my 11 year old daughter) published through Sparklesoup Inc.. coming in 2018. Its first film, A New Year's Story, just won an Official Selection for the LA Film Festival!
Happy to finally share a sneak peek at the Bitter Frost Film, which began production in December! The actor's names are deliberately left out so there will be a bigger reveal later on. Bitter Frost has sold over 1.5 million copies over the world and has been translated into multiple languages. Because many people have formed an idea of who they want cast as the leads, we won't reveal the actors until later. I am happy to be 100% involved in the production of Bitter Frost and am tapped as the Director as well as the Writer and Executive Producer.
For the readers of Bitter Frost, you will finally get an insight into why the title and the series is titled "Bitter Frost".
Winter has Come. The Peace is Undone. Lives will be Lost. It Begins with Bitter Frost.
7 films, 3 TV Series, and over 30 New Books Released in 2017!
It's been a personal record-breaking year for me in 2017 as I embarked on taking on my own Go Girl Challenge and philosophy. I wrote, produced, directed, and starred in 7 films and 3 tv series. I produced, managed, and hosted a live stage international production for a world class stage for charity at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium, I started a professional quarterly periodical for Authors and Publishers called Authors Voice. I started a store. I began production and filming on a feature film (Bitter Frost) that will be theatrically released. I partnered up with a tv/film station to produce most if not all of my books into tv and film. I released over 30 books and launched my Sparklesoup eBook Store with over 85 books. Personally, I challenged myself physically by going camping and chaperoning a bunch of tween girls on a remote island without cell phone and internet, decent plumbing. Whew! Became a judge and mentor for an emerging writing community website. Got invited to submit a speech for TED Talk.
4 Wins and 1 Nomination in Film Awards in 2017
This was the year I let it go....stop caring about what rankings or amount of sales I had for my books, and just wrote books and produced tv/films that I felt compelled to write and produce even though they are not going to be the "hot" ones that is on trend. One series was effective enough to make a social difference, in spite of the trolls and critics. It accomplished its purpose. I am satisfied with being true to myself, being true to my beliefs, and being able to achieve more for women and girls. For that, I was rewarded with awards - 4 Wins in Film so far (still going through the Film Festival circuit) and 1 nomination.
Women and International Recognition in 2017
Women made a huge leap in recognition for their work in film and television. More strong women characters were lead characters on screen. And more international/global works of quality are being discovered.
Strong Clarity and Direction in 2017
This was also a year, things became very clear for me, and I was able to see with clarity and wisdom on predicting where things are going in 5 to 20 years. I had visions of where certain industries are going, where certain companies and even countries are going. Strange but true. I felt like Nostradamus.
I lost my dear grandmother this year, but saw a vision of her in a better place. She is happier and at peace, watching over her loved ones in heaven along with my grandfather.

Bitter Frost Omnibus Books 1-4 of the Bitter Frost Series released for the 1st Time as a Box Set today. We are excited that it has already reached #1 in New Releases in Teen and Young Adult in Bullying and Social Issues. It is with good company along with the teen and young adult novel, Thirteen Reasons Why.
Bitter Frost the book series, which is published by Sparklesoup.com but is also an Indie book series, itself has undergone bullying in its first few years of release mainly from indie-hating trolls, who believed books like Bitter Frost was a threat to traditionally-published traditional YA books. But due to the loyalty of Bitter Frost's fans, which sold over 1.5 million books and is translated into multiple languages, as well as strong support from large organizations and governmental organizations; Bitter Frost Series was able to overcome bullying in the publishing industry, get made into a video mobile game, animated film which won film awards, and is now in Production as a Featured Film to be released in 2018.
Bitter Frost's success is a testament to good and kind-hearted people who believe that good triumphs over evil, and that bullying both in the book's message and externally, is wrong and will never win. Teens and women especially like this series because it is truly an empowering book...a true underdog rise to destiny book. If you want a female-driven Lord of the Rings or Chronicles of Narnia, Bitter Frost is it. And that fact the series was bullied from rivals in the beginning, especially big pocket larger Goliath rivals, shows Bitter Frost has something that is worth threatening them.
The Bitter Frost Omnibus is Available Now on All e-Retailer just in time for Christmas!
The first book of the Bitter Frost Series by Kailin Gow, starting with Bitter Frost, begins filming in December 2017. "Very excited about the tone and look for this film," Kailin Gow says. "It's like nothing anyone expects." The production is hush hush at the moment so not to have any spoilers.
Kailin Gow, an award-winning writer, director and filmmaker besides author, has written the script and will be directing.

In light of all the women coming out to finally talk about the seemingly long-standing and "accepted" bad behavior of men in power at Entertainment companies, I have a confession myself. No, I was never harassed by Harvey Weinstein, nor have I met him.
But in my youth as a young woman and even as a teen, I have been "hit" on by people in the "industry" or even belittled due to being "cute" and for just being a woman. In auditions I went to, to being a producer on a set (where the director's father kissed me for no reason) and I had to walk off the set.
As an author, I've been "hit on" by publishers and agents, even quite recently (despite me being happily married).
Of course, I was always shocked and appalled this kind of behavior existed. As a woman, it also brings out the insecurity that women have in thinking maybe it was their fault. As a woman who even does not consider herself as a "babe" or "hot", I could tell you, it has nothing to do with what a woman wears and how she acts. No one has the ability or the power to make you feel small, weak, and powerless just because they are the ones who caused the bad behavior.
So as a mother of a girl and the aunt of several nieces; I am speaking up to say, take back the power. Own your own businesses, do your own thing, and be a success at it!
I became an independent publisher and also started my own award-winning production company so I don't have to put up with that bad behavior. Not because I couldn't get published with them as I have sold as much or even more books than many authors published through big name publishers and have won the same awards as those whose books are on recommended lists to read at schools. With other 5.5 million books sold and over $1 million as an author made; I can say it is possible to be successful in entertainment and writing without having to compromise and give in to bad behavior from others.
For any change to occur for women and even men (One of my male actor friend who is well-known as an action figure actor came out to say he had been sexually harassed in Hollywood to his shock and surprised when it happened), women and men should stop the slut-shaming, as well as take any allegations seriously. I commend the production companies and corporations which took action against Weinstein and other sexual predators masquerading as dream makers in Hollywood for being proactive and helping women (and men) break their silence and stop living in fear.
As a publisher and also an author who writes romance as one of my genres, I also want to say I am appalled when a male model approaches me at a signing or knows who I am, and tries to flirt or touch me, as if this will help them get a job with me. I don't know where they get the idea they must kiss up to women executives or authors this way, but I think women execs and women in power have the obligation to stay professional just like our male counterparts must stay professional.
Lastly, for all those women who opened up their own businesses, took up the helm to become independent publishers or production companies like I did, I applaud you for taking the power back into your hands. Critics of Indie Authors, publishers, and filmmakers, who criticize women indie companies, should realize they are not helping women gain independence and power, but are adding to the oppression of women by saying, "You are Only somebody when you get published or are in a traditional or Big Name Hollywood production." Not true.
Because as everyone should know...the Weinstein Company (which Harvey Weinstein co-founded) is known for producing INDEPENDENT FILMS! Yet, it is also so powerful that many have feared speaking up about Harvey Weinstein for years.
Take care and God Bless!
